Stumpers
This week's stumper:
Surf the Rotary Foundation web site and you will find several photos of children in the Sicelekuhle preschool. KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
How many "clicks" are there in "Sicelekuhle" when pronounced by those children?
Extra credit: Which click sound(s) is/are employed?
Extra-extra credit: How is the last syllable pronounced?
John Neely will donate $5 to The Rotary Foundation for each correct answer to the extra-credit question and $10 for each correct answer to the extra-extra-credit question.
Thanks for John Neely for providing this week's Stumper.
Happy Birthday to: Malia Griffin (Dec. 29th), Tony O'Donnell (31st), Robert Barnard (Jan. 1st), John Hall (3rd).
And now a few announcements....
From President Juli -
-
Hi all,
As previously announced, our club has agreed to participate in a BIGGEST LOSER competition with various other Rotary Clubs in our District, and I have volunteered to be our TEAM CAPTAIN, because I can really use this.
However, in order to participate we need to have at least five to ten people on our team.
So far I have heard from Lefty McLaughlin, Frank Campbell, and John Keenan. Sandy Heaphy says she would too, but I think you could blow her away with a feather, so we may need some more members to help me out here.
Did anyone else in our club make a New Year's resolution to get fit?
Remember, this is based on BMI, not just pounds, so the goal is to build some muscle and get in shape, not just to diet.
Can I hear from a few more participants, PLEASE!!??!! We need to get started soon.
Thanks so much.
Juli
- Hi all fellow Salem Rotarians,
The year 2007 is quickly drawing to a close. Thank you to ALL of you who have already turned in your Calendar money.
If you have not yet turned in your calendar money to the Calendar Committee, please do so before the end of the year.
The calendar committee consists of:
RECEIPTS CHAIRWOMAN: Debbie Amaral (you can drop things off for her at the Salem YMCA)
COMMITTEE CO-CHAIRS: Sandy Heaphy (you can drop things off for her at the Kensington-Stobart Gallery on the corner of Essex and Hawthorne Blvd.)
Tony O'Donnell (you can drop things off for him at the O'Donnell Funeral Homes)
Once the end of the year arrives, Debbie will do a reconcilation of all outstanding members' receipts. Any outstanding calendar money will be billed to you by our club secretary, Jim Robinson, on your next billing.
Please, let's make it as easy as we can on this ALL VOLUNTEER group of our fellow Rotarians, and turn in your receipts ASAP.
Please email all announcements to be added to the Spoke and/or feedback to salem_rotary@yahoo.com by Noon on Wednesday. Also, feel free to contact any of the committee members listed below.
