Recognitions and Fines:

  • John Hall has become a grandparent for the first time.  Granddaughter named Sawyer has joined the family.  He will be heading down to Atlanta for his first visit Friday - CONGRATS JOHN!
  • Jim Cobb spent 5 days on Long Beach in Rockport - hence the Irish tan.
  • John Steuve just returned from a family reunion in Michigan.
  • Dave Benson recently had an article about his company in a Danvers newspaper.
  • Mark Leavitt spent some time in Burlington Vermont visiting his son.
  • Bruce Whear paid a fine for having the logo of his company on the front & BACK of his shirt.  Bruce also celebrated his 1st wedding anniversary with wife Heidi.
  • Deb Amaral reminded all about he DSS cookout - which has been postponed as of the writing of this SPOKE bulletin - note below about new date and time.
  • Viktoria Talebian paid a fine for taking her entire staff down to Baltimore for crab cakes.... and some training!
  • Viktoria also let us know that she is the Sgt. @ Arms - who knew!  She also informed the club that the penalty for having your company logo on the front & BACK of your shirt at a club meeting is a very, very heavy and fineable offense.
  • Mark Shaw has reported into the SPOKE Sportsdesk that your own Salem club hammered Beverly this week 25-9.  The next showdown will be at Salem State College vs. Beverly @ 6 p.m.  Hopefully Beverly has traded for Manny!

Program for the July 29th meeting:

This week standing in as defacto El Presidente was our own John Hall.

Job well done sir!

Thanks for ending the meeting with a bang John!

            Juli's Presidential Project/Funds Allocation

Most recent Rotary Past President Juli Lederhaus presented the Salem Common Neighborhood Association with funds to improve the "Tot Lot" on the common.  The hope is to make it an attractive and fun place for residents and tourists alike to spend time with their children. Representing the Salem Common Neighborhood Association were President Michael Coleman & Past President Marion Curtain.

Events to be aware of -- Save the Dates!!

  •  The Rotary Board of Director meetings will be held that 3rd Tuesday of each month @ 10:45 a.m.  at the Hawthorne Hotel.  The meeting room will change on a monthly basis.

  • Due to inclement weather, the DSS cookout scheduled for 7/31 @ 6pm was cancelled.  We will pick a reschedule date at Tuesday's meeting along with an alternative location in the event of inclement weather in the future.  Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.  See you on Tuesday! - David Wescott

And now a few announcements....

The SPOKE is looking for club members to contribute to the weekly stumper.  Ideally it would be something about a member that nobody is privy to; professional accomplishments, contributions to Rotary in the past, etc.  We will endeavor to use as many as possible - please send all suggested stumpers to rotary_salem@yahoo.com - Thanks, Your Rotary SPOKE Team!

Stumpers

This week's stumper: submitted by Ray Hodge

This is an unusual paragraph.  I'm curious as to just how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so ordinary and plain that you would think nothing was wrong with it.  In fact, nothing is wrong with it!  It is highly unusual though. Study it and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching!

Last weeks stumper:

Can you name three consecutive days without using the words Wednesday, Friday, or Sunday?

Answer to last week's stumper:

Sure you can name three consecutive days, yesterday, today, and tomorrow !

Happy Birthday to:   Jacob Segal

Please email all announcements to be added to the Spoke  and/or feedback to salem_rotary@yahoo.com by Noon on Wednesday.  Also, feel free to contact any of the committee members listed below.
