Raffle Calendar: # 1111 sold by Mary Ann Lyons to Janet Puleo
Recognitions and Fines:
- Dave Wescott’s daughter began her 1st year in middle school and he and his wife Deborah celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary.
- John and Christine Neely have become grandparents to baby Rose. CONGRATS!
- Bill Kielbasa had a great time on his most recent hiking expedition and all are welcome to join him anytime.
- Trip Mason spent a week in Pennsylvania & his #1 son has recently had a daughter. CONGRATS!
- Rich Eisner went to Maine and New Hampshire. Rich informed us of the little known Triathlon that spans the likes of Santa’s Village, Storyland & Outlet Shopping! Very glad to see you made it back safely Rich. Rich also had a piece of cake this week at Rotary (chocolate).
- Tim Clarke’s sister lives off of North St. in Salem and she has come up with a new slogan representative of the new/most recent traffic fiascos.
“Welcome to Salem, city of lights.”
- Bruce Whear’s eldest son has headed off to college. Wife Heidi’s eldest son has landed a new job.
- Jane Stirgwolt spent a week on Nantucket Sound.
- Liz Bradt dropped her son at Roger Williams over the weekend and immediately came home and began looking at baby pictures.
- Mary Ann Lyons has become a GREAT GRANDMOTHER to baby Gabriella. CONGRATS!
- John Hooper’s informed us that his wife decided to take advantage of the most recent tax free weekend in Massachusetts. They saved a bundle on a new refrigerator and dishwasher. However the tab for plumbing and installation ran them to the tune of $1500.00. They get you coming and going dont' they John!
- John Fisher announced that his son's Samuel Adam's IPA brew is now available at Gillette Stadium. They did the best they could to finish off the 7 barrels that were delivered to the Samuel Adam's Brewhouse! It should also be noted that young Adam Walsh could be heard on Thursday night on WEEI. Adam was a guest on the "Planet Mikey Show" with Mike Adam's... joining them as well was none other than owner and brewmaster Jim Cooke. You could actually hear the bottles of suds being opened live on the air. Sounded like a good time was had by all!

SALEM — Robert W. Diamond, 77, husband for 54 years of Harriet (Gleason) Diamond, formerly of Marblehead and Peabody, died early Wednesday morning in the Lafayette Nursing Home, Marblehead.
Born in Medford, the son of the late Joseph and Marion (Moore) Diamond, he was raised in Swampscott, graduating from Swampscott High School in the Class of 1949. He then received his Electrical Engineers Degree from Northeastern University in the Class of 1953.
A pioneer in the electronics industry, Mr. Diamond began his career with Transistron and was later with Solid State Products in Salem. Mr. Diamond had also served as a Vice President in the Motorola Corporation and President of Dymec for several years until establishing his business, the Diamond Group which he operated for several years until his retirement.
While living in Peabody Mr. Diamond became active in Peabody Youth Hockey serving as one of the early presidents and coaching teams for many years. He was proud of his children and very involved in their lives. He was also a longtime member of the Salem Rotary Club and a member of the Boston Yacht Club.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, 26 Pleasant St., Marblehead. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in private. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Salem Rotary Scholarship Fund, c/o Rotary Club Of Salem, PO Box 608, Salem, MA 01970. Gig Michaud's mother passed away this week after a lengthly illness. Please extend your thoughts and prayers to Gig and his family during this difficult time. At the present time more details with regards to arrangements are not available and will be published in next weeks SPOKE.

President Dave thanked those that made the D.S.S. cookout a success for over 100 kids and parents. Attended by Bob Anthony, Deb Amaral, Mary Ann Lyons, Dave Benson, Bruce Whear, Roberta Cantor, John Neely, Mike McLaughlin, Brenda Smith, Rich Blazo and Juli and Courtney Lederhaus. Donations were also made by Rich, Frank, Beth and the Plumber Home for Boys.

District 7930 Seeks a
TEAM LEADER for our GSE Exchange to Johannesburg, South Africa, February, 28- March, 28 2009.
TEAM LEADER applications Now Accepted! Rotary International (click here to download)
District 7930 is offering a free professional and cultural exchange program including travel, accommodations and meals. All travel and accommodations are provided by Rotary International and the Rotary Club of South Africa. This Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a unique vocational exchange opportunity for professional men and women. Team members will make invaluable vocational contacts and visit sites of cultural and historic significance in Johannesburg, South Africa. Working with the district GSE Chair, the Team Leader will advise and coordinate outbound team responsibilities before, during, and after travel dates.
This year our district’s outbound team will be going to Johannesburg, South Africa, February 28 –March 28, 2009. Team Leaders must be a club member within District 7930. The TEAM LEADER application deadline is September 27, 2008. Interviews will be held in October. Team Leaders will also participate in the selection of team members, interviews to be held in November 2008.
