Guest speaker:

Today’s speaker was Erik Rodenhiser, a local actor and the owner of the Griffen Theatre on Lynde Street. Erik’s first acting role was as a young boy, in a production at the Old Town Hall. His one line was, “Not I”, and he got to spill water on the lap of a very pretty woman. From that moment on he was hooked.
His first foray into directing came in the 6th grade with “Death of Achilles” – where Erik learned a lot about props and how not to create fake blood.
He continued his fascination with acting, and after working with community theater locally, he decided to go to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career. While there, he spent a lot of time being an extra, got to visit Steven Spielberg’s home (while wearing a Barney costume), and got an actual role in one film (albeit a very short and non-speaking one). He also realized that the only way to succeed in Hollywood is for the business to be all consuming, and he wasn’t willing to put his family and friends aside. So he decided to come back to this area.
What Erik realized was that while he wasn’t going to become a movie star in Salem, it was possible to be successful in the acting business here, and that is what he has set out to do. Erik now owns the Griffen Theatre, he teaches, and he has worked in a number of commercials. He has done several iParty commercials, and is now involved in writing and casting those commercials as well.
