  • Recognized the Golf Committee members:  Juli Lederhaus, Bob Conley, Rich Eisner, John Fisher
  • Golf team winners were the team including:  Mark Shaw, Rich Blazo and Bill Kielbasa
  • Rich Eisner has agreed to pay a fine for being so braggadocious and requesting a picture of the winning scorecard be placed in The Spoke.  Which was too large a format to be published, Rich.  Perhaps a direct correlation to the size of your head for winning!!!???

Recognitions:

            Dave Benson – family party

            Frank Campbell – Florida time

Liz Bradt – accreditation for her vet clinic

Program for the June 2nd Meeting:

Dave Gendall spoke about Friends Forever and his visit to N. Ireland.

Approximately 20 people joined Dave in their trip to Northern Ireland for a better understanding and support for the Friends Forever Program.  As some may know, Dave is a current board member of Friends Forever, an organization encouraging peace between Catholic and Protestants in Northern Ireland.

Some of the activities the group enjoyed were visiting the Friends Forever kids and some of their parents, visiting numerous YMCA clubs, visiting both Protestant and Catholic churches and walking along the extensive wall which divides the Protestant and Catholic neighborhoods.

Dave also mentioned that a similar program is in the works for Israeli and Palestinian young adults.

Lastly, Dave thanked Salem Rotary for their support of the Friends Forever program and encouraged their future involvement.

And now a few announcements....

We have an opportunity to host a second Rotary Youth Exchange student at Salem High School next year.  This would be in addition to the three from SHS that we are sponsoring next year to and Julie from France whom we will also be hosting.Host parents need not be Rotarians.  They should be Salem residents.  They need not have children in the schools, although that is a plus.  Filip has a 10-year-old brother at home.

For questions or more information, contact John Neely, club Youth Exchange Officer, at john.h.neely@gmail.com or 978-745-8773.
