SPEAKER/PRESENTER OF THE WEEK

Congressman John Tierney

Congressman Tierney spends a substantial amount of time working in Washington, DC.  That work involves attending hearings held by the Committees on which he serves, reviewing legislation, policy memos and constituent correspondence, voting on the House floor, discussing and advancing legislative ideas with his colleagues and staff, responding inquiries from the press, and participating in meetings with those visiting from the district and others on domestic and foreign policy issues.

Congressman Tierney sits on four committees, the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, the House Select Committee on Intelligence, the House Committee on Education and Labor and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. In addition, he is Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform's Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs.

Through his positions on these congressional bodies, John is able to probe key issues relevant to the various groups and explore potential solutions to issues of concern.

During meetings held with mayors, town administrators and representatives of local communities and entities, items deemed of public importance by them are brought to my attention and federal funding is requested.  When that happens, my office reviews such requests and forwards them to the House Appropriations Committee along with related information about the project or applicant as appropriate for their consideration.
