The 2010-2011 Salem Rotary Club five open Board of Director positions has been filled. The term will begin in July under the leadership of the new President Bill Kielbasa. Congratulations to Anita Blackaby, Bob Conley, Dick Lutts, Trip Mason and John Stueve.
Sandy Heaphy is looking for volunteers to read books that our club is presenting to first and second grade students in Salem. We are organizing this into Rotary Literacy Month (March). Rotarian's are asked to the books to children and then discuss the importance of literacy. We will also talk about Rotary. We need a final head count of volunteers by next Tuesday February 16th. Please see Sandy if you are interested.
The Salem Rotary Auction is set for March 5th at 6:00pm. This year it is at the Salem Waterfront Hotel. The cost is $50.00pp and you have a choice of Haddock or Sirloin Tips. We need you to bring guests and donate items. This is only a few weeks away and since this is our number one fundraising event we need your support. In addition to auction items we are seeking ads for the auction as well.
Viktoria Talebian introduced and recognized student leaders from Salem High and Salem Charter School.
Frank Campbell has donated the funds to purchase the meal for the Salem Mission last Thursday. Joanne Scott was a fantastic team leader. A special thanks to Frank and Joanne for their support. We also would like to recognize Dave Benson, Randy Burba, Jim Lister, Mike McLaughlin, Sean Stellato and Bob Dionne for their help.
The World Peace and Understanding Dinner was on February 9th. We had 5 representatives from the club attend. Thanks for your support.
The District Conference is set for May 21 to 23 at the Samoset Resort in Rockland Maine. Rooms have been blocked at a rate of $139 to $199 per night. The conference fee is $255 which includes all meals and sessions. Please see President John if interested.
John Neely announced the Vocational Meetings needed for London GSE team. The Group Study Exchange team from London will be in our district during the entire month of May and in our immediate portion of the district from 17 through 20 May. (Our outbound team was in London last fall.) Vocational exchange for the visiting young professionals is central to the program: that is, opportunities to meet and / or work with counterparts in the US. Please suggest any persons or businesses that we should try to contact. Here is the visiting team:
