THIS WEEK'S SPEAKER
This week, our speaker was native Salem resident and author of "Fat Boy, Skinny Man", Michael Prager. Michael is the son of long time Salem Rotarian, Bob Prager.
Michael took the club through the journey of his life starting as an overweight child, teenager, and young adult who eventually discovered that his key to weight management was not "dieting", but rather a sustainable lifestyle that allowed him to drop weight and keep it off. Prior to his sustainable awakening, Michael had lost and gained over 500 lbs. over the 20 years of dieting, losing 100 lbs. three different times in his life - only to eventually gain the weight back. Michael is a self-proclaimed "Dieting Champion."
Michael's presentation progressed into the idea of applying the notion of sustainability to not just our environment and natural resources, but to any aspect of life where nature organically adapts itself to develop, survive, and/or sustain life. This idea of "natural progression" allowed Michael to formulate a life without dieting and live in a "normal sized body" over the past 23 years. Since his adaption of this idea, Michael got his first girlfriend (in his mid-30's), got married, and started a family.
