FINES AND RECOGNITIONS
James Lister reported that the first "Paddle for Plummer" fundraiser was a success with 100 paddlers and many spinners.  He thanked all who supported the event.

Bruce Whear wished our new President, Chris Casey, a good year.  He also said that his recent production of Les Miserables at the Marblehead Little Theater was a successful $40,000 endeavor. Congratulations, Bruce!

Liz Bradt spent the 4th of July in Portsmouth, where she explained the mission of Rotary to a storekeeper who thought our organization studied traffic rotaries!  We need to keep getting the word out about Rotary.

Richard Eisner went with his family to Nova Scotia, missing the recent hurricane Arthur during his ferry passage, but meeting it head on while staying at his friend Arthur's house!

Dick celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary with his wife, Judy, at Jackson Hole in Yellowstone National Park.  Speaking of head on...they came literally face to face with a moose and then a wild buffalo on a 10,000 ft. climb in their vehicle!

Rinus spent 2 weeks on vacation in the Netherlands.  He is also happy that Germany won the World Cup.

Brenda Smith also saw a buffalo previously at Yellowstone while on her bike!

Jason Consalvo had a stay-cation, enjoying his 1-year-old son who is now walking.  Jason said, "Life is officially over" with that milestone!
Jason also reported on our softball team's success this year with a 5-2 overall record, 4-1 record on the field.  Playoffs are starting soon!

Chris Casey has a great tan from being outdoors at his son's lacrosse tournament at UMass where his 15-year-old son's team won all 5 of their games!

SPEAKER OF THE WEEK

Very special guests this week were the 10 teenagers from Israel, 5 Jewish and 5 Arab, who were visiting the area through Friends Forever.

Jamie said that as this visit's excitement grew, his sleep declined!  He reviewed that Friends Forever is a youth leadership program that broadens participants' personal experiences, gives them a voice, increases their confidence and encourages life-long continued service with a formal year-long follow up once the youth return home.

Jamie introduced the 2 group leaders; one from the Arab school run by the Sisters of Nazarene, and one from the Israeli school.  The leaders introduced all 10 students to the Rotarians, and then introduced the 2 students who spoke to the group.

The 2 student speakers gave a moving explanation of their ideals and why they were participating in the program.  They both said that their families supported their trip and taught them tolerance at home.  They said the purpose of the trip was to build friendships that have trust as the basis.

Several Rotarians asked questions about the students' families and about how the program would continue once they returned home.

The students presented President Chris with gifts, a flag and a mug, from their schools.  In addition, they gave President Chris a certificate that was in Hebrew and translated said, "The truth and future will rise from the young."
