THIS WEEK'S SPEAKER

This week's speakers were Margaret Brennan, CEO of the North Shore Community Health Initiative, and Rosario Ubiera-Minaya, from the outreach enrollment program of the North Shore Community Health Initiative

Margaret spoke about the Salem Family Health Center, with sites in Salem, Peabody and Gloucester, and at Salem High School.  The centers promote healthcare for families and individuals, focusing on comprehensive primary care.  They work with food banks, shelters, and the local hospitals.  The program is now 40 years old and serves 15,000 in the area.

Rosario spoke about the Affordable Care Act and Mass Health Connector.  The health centers work to complete applications and enroll clients.  The ACA mandates health insurance coverage or face a tax penalty.  The categories of health care are:
  • Mass Health
  • Mass Health Plus
  • Qualified Health Plus
  • Health Safety Net
