Classification Talk: Getting to Know Adam Lord
This week one of our own took the podium, as Salem Rotarian Adam Lord delivered his classification talk and gave the club a fuller picture of the person behind the familiar face.
Adam is a Certified Public Accountant with a Salem State University degree Class of '08 and a business certificate to go with it. A Methuen High School graduate, he is licensed as a CPA in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire and also holds a Certified Not-for-Profit Accounting Professional credential, specializing in the reporting, tax compliance, and governance that keep nonprofits on solid footing.
His career has followed a steady upward path. Adam started out at a regional firm in North Andover, then moved to New Hampshire, where he worked his way up to partner. This past March, that practice was acquired by Ryan & Coscia, PC, the Salem firm on Essex Street where he works today. His day-to-day brings him alongside privately held and family-held businesses, guiding them through succession planning, assisting with litigation and dissolutions, and consulting with nonprofits on their accounting, tax, and financial statement needs.
If there's a theme that runs through Adam's story, it's involvement. As he put it, staying involved is simply part of being part of the community, and his record backs that up. He serves as Treasurer of the Salem State University Alumni Association and Foundation, stays active with the New Hampshire Society of CPAs (recently merged with the New England Society of CPAs), and supports the Concord Coalition. He's also a graduate of Leadership Greater Manchester. That dedication hasn't gone unnoticed: Adam has been named a "40 Under 40" honoree by both the New Hampshire Union Leader and Salem State University for his professional achievements and his board involvement.
For all his professional and civic commitments, Adam's favorite way to unwind may be the most memorable detail of the talk: horses. He's an avid rider who enjoys pleasure riding, dressage, jumping and, for good measure, foxhunting. It's not the hobby most of us would have guessed for our resident CPA, and it's exactly the kind of surprise these classification talks are made for. Adam went into depth on his adventures both on the North Shore and on the other side of the pond. Unsurprisingly, all of the questions from Rotarians for Adam were about this major part of his life.
