Tyler introduced himself to the Rotary Club. He lives with his wife and family in Marblehead. His wife works at Salem State University. He comes from a Rotary family as his father was a Rotarian, as is his brother in law.
Tyler graduated from MIT in 2000 and entered into a career in software engineering. He transitioned across a few other industries before getting experience working for a payment company, as in companies that help collect credit card payments and the like. Eventually he landed at a job focused on collecting money for churches and non-profits. He is now working on a program for families to access medical records and data digitally, as well as deciding who to share this information with.
For fun, Tyler likes spending time with his family and to travel. He sings, as does his wife Rebecca. Music and musicals are important to him. When he arrived on the North Shore from Utah, the lack of mountains was shocking to him.
KRISTEN ARMSTRONG
Kristen has been a member of the Salem Rotary for several years. She had originally joined a different Rotary club in 1998. Kristen was born to a single mom and raised in Salem, and claims that she will die on Highland Avenue (hopefully not literally).
Kristen attended North Shore Community College hoping to enter a career as a special education teacher. While in school, she started working at a bank. She is now a Vice President and Branch Manager at Eastern Bank.
She met her husband while walking down Boston Street and just got in a car with a stranger because apparently that's what folks did in the 90s. She has two sons, Jack (20) and Luke (12). Luke just learned to ride a bike.
Kristen does still give her time to the community. You might see her riding her motorcycle around town with a pink helmet.
This Week in Baseball:
We are entering the 9th inning of the year. There have been over 900 contributions to spreading the word about Rotary and meeting our goals as a club. Recent additions were Bruce and Jen, among others, doing No Mow May. Liz got organizations signed up for local parades.
From the Committees:
Service Committee: Senior Prom is coming up on June 15. We plan on being there from 4-4:45. Quite the easy lift.
Scholarship Committee: The committee selected the nominees to receive scholarships. Rinus thanked the committee and wanted to recognize how strong the candidates were.

As the Rotary World Turns...
Did you know that the Salem Rotary is part of Rotary Zones 28 and 32 (specifically Zone 32)? Find out more information about Rotary Zones 28 and 32 or join the In the Zone Facebook group. This month, Zone Director Drew Kessler sent a message to all to focus on enhancing participant experience - or how to make our members (as well as future members and anyone with whom we come in contact) come back wanting more!
Chris Casey and Ryan Guilmartin played. No winner this week!
ROTARIAN NEWS
Happy Dollars
Gerrit Bradley went to Dubai last week for business. He said it is a "crazy place" and a combination of "Disney, New York City, Paris and Vegas." At one point the temperature topped 105 degrees. They went to the largest mosque in the world, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, where he could not wear his rainbow watch band. He also attended a Rotary meeting and will be bringing a flag to Rotary next week.
Jason Consalvo celebrated Harrison's 10th birthday with four of his friends. Harrison got Coke with dinner and stayed up late.
Liz Bradt gave an update on Rebecca and Kerry's engagement, which took place a couple of week's ago before the "secret" proposal that the writers of the Spoke in no way mentioned in previous editions.
Claire Kallelis told the story of of a puppy getting into red stain and making a mess of itself and everything around.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION STATEMENT
At Rotary, we understand that cultivating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture is essential to realizing our vision of a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change.
We value diversity and celebrate the contributions of people of all backgrounds, across age, ethnicity, race, color, disability, learning style, religion, faith, socioeconomic status, culture, marital status, languages spoken, sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity as well as differences in ideas, thoughts, values, and beliefs.
Recognizing that individuals from certain groups have historically experienced barriers to membership, participation, and leadership, we commit to advancing equity in all aspects of Rotary, including in our community partnerships, so that each person has the necessary access to resources, opportunities, networks, and support to thrive.
We believe that all people hold visible and invisible qualities that inherently make them unique, and we strive to create an inclusive culture where each person knows they are valued and belong.
In line with our value of integrity, we are committed to being honest and transparent about where we are in our DEI journey as an organization, and to continuing to learn and do better.
