SPEAKER OF THE WEEK
House Representative Paul Tucker is the House Chair of the Joint Committee on Marijuana Policy.
In addition, Paul sits on the Joint Committee on Education, Judiciary, Public Safety and Homeland Security, and on the Ways and Means Committee.
Some of Paul's success stories are:
Working to shift criminal justice reform away from punishment and redirect it toward rehabilitation. Tucker was instrumental for the implementation of more programs based on rehabilitation of law enforcement as well. He had a strong part in the education of law enforcement personal and recognizing addiction as being the root of a lot of crimes. "Education, Enforcement & Treatment" - Working to better educate our law enforcement members in accurately treating people for the addiction, and to hopefully help them avoid entering the system. Tucker recommended North Shore Medical Center for its outstanding rehab programs. Rep. Tucker and Senator Lovely were active participants on the task team for "Adolescent & Emerging Youth 18-24," an educational program to keep youths from entering system.
Student Opportunity Act 1993 - Tucker believes the existing law does not provide enough funding for the K-12 students. His committee is working on readjusting the budget to allow more funding for the transportation of Special Education needs students, and reduce healthcare costs. He supports increasing funding to provide more English speaking interpreters.
Transportation - Currently addressing the consistency of toll collections, how to address current transportation issues regarding overcrowded trains, manage consistent maintenance (as a new train would take up to 8 years to be ready for service), and employee expectations, as well as future transportation.
Nicky’s Law - Registry of people with developmental abilities need to be registered to provide due process.
The following issues are the main issues Paul Tucker is focusing on:
Safe community policing
Family Mobility Act
ROWE Reproductive Act
Rollback of 2% real estate fee
$1.00 per ride additional fee for Lyft drivers
3% gas tax rollback
Increase the voter registration
