Dick Lutts and his family were guests this week.

Bruce Whear's wife, Heidi, was a guest, as well as a visitor from the Marblehead Club.

FINES AND RECOGNITIONS

Jason Consalvo mentioned the wisdom his under-the-weather son observed recently: “Loose poops are like roller coasters – they come so fast!”

Viktoria Talebian mentioned the fellowship event has been moved to Thursday, February 20th, at 6-8PM at Flatbread’s. Your $33 gets you bowling shoes, bowling, and pizza!

Bill Kielbasa was happy he broke a record by attending Rotary two weeks in a row, and that two of his calendar buyers were winners!

Bob Conley was in Puerto Rico to play golf with friends and experienced an earthquake.

Bruce Whear gave us an update on his brother who was in Puerto Rico when he had cardiac issues.  Thankfully, it was not a heart attack but a-fib, which is a condition he is managing.

Adria Duijvesteijn is looking for any unwanted professional clothing that could be donated for Salem State’s “Dress for Success” program. Please bring in clothing next week.

SPEAKER OF THE WEEK

This week's meeting celebrated Dick Lutts, who has retired from our Club after 41 years. Tim Clark and Rob Lutts (his nephew) spoke. Joe Amico was going to speak but was unable to attend.

Some fun facts:

Dick is 96 years old, and has been married to Betty for 72 years, and has four kids. He worked over 30 years at the Salem Laundry, and started Cabot Farm Enterprises in his “retirement” and he is a walking advertisement for the nutritional health supplements his company produces. He was a Rotarian for 41 years, and Tim joked we are holding the Presidency for him in four years for when he turns 100! The Salem Laundry Company once filled the 5th and 6th floor of the building where AJ King Bakery is now,  and provided industrial laundry services for the north shore with 30-40 trucks making deliveries. When business changed, he and John Hooper built 15 laundromats when the industrial services declined.

Along with being an avid joke teller and people person, Dick understood that change was constant and was a mentor to Rob Lutts and many others. Rob mentioned five points Dick brought to bear:
  1. Cash in must be greater than cash out!
  2. How are you promoting your business?
  3. When did you take charge of your life? (Asked to potential Rotary scholarship applicants)
  4. You are what you think.
  5. On worrying --JUST DON’T DO IT!

Everyone enjoyed some fine cake in Dick’s honor, and Dick and Betty got up and sang one of their songs they would sing to their kids to cheer them up.

Thank you Dick for your fellowship!
