Salem Rotarians Say . . .
Jim Rose reported out on his Camino Walk. Starting from France, he walked 490 miles in honor of his late wife Julie. He highly recommends this experience and noted that the walk brings out the best in people.
Jason Lang shared how he has picked up running and has committed to running one race each month, starting this past March. Running 5Ks now, he is working towards 10Ks with the ultimate goal of running a full marathon.
Mel Lahey regaled the crowd with a story of a recent trip to Red Rocks in Colorado to see the band Young Blood. Of the music industry herself, she did not like the opening band and told her friends she suspected that someone in it had a parent in the industry. Mel was spot on, as the drummer for the opener is the son of Slash, lead guitarist for Guns N’ Roses.
Gary Barrett got a little teary eyed as he shared news of the newest blessing to his family. Already a proud grandad to two grandsons, his family welcomed the first Barrett girl. His son and daughter-in-law named her Nora Jean for Gary’s mom. Both grandsons are happily doting over their new sister.
Marie Cardillo thanked the Rotarians who joined her and her mom Mary at the Mary Cardillo Day celebration at the Community Life Center last week. The city recognized Mary as the oldest citizen in Salem at a party at the CLC where she received citations from every level of politician in the city, enjoyed cake and ice cream with a packed room, and was sung to by the Phoenix School children.
Heather Lang proudly shared that she and a neighbor are self publishing a children’s book. The Garden That Grew Me, authored by Heather and illustrated by her neighbor Jennifer Platt, is due out in July of this year.
